The Waiting Room (DEMO)

about

I recorded this at home on the Br800 in December 2012 as part of "The Vanity Tapes" demos.
This song was inspired by an Oblique Strategy Card that read "do nothing for as long as possible". I'd spent a lot of time in waiting rooms as my wife was pregnant with our son at the time. This is one of those tunes I heard in my head while driving and wrote the entire thing without an instrument by the time I got home.

lyrics

The Waiting Room
“Fill out the form, take a number and take a seat on the right. We’ll be with you in a minute.”
It’s hard to imagine why she’s waiting if there isn’t any line. Each moment’s longer when you’re in it.
She’s playing with her phone and then a magazine, her phone again.
She twiddles her thumbs and then she rummaged through her purse.
Cuz she’s so bored that she’s counted every tile on the ceiling and the floor.
This is the waiting room, stuck in the waiting room.

It’s far too bright to sleep in here she can’t relax in the plastic chair.
She drew a mustache on the face of every magazine here.
Cuz she’s so bored that she’s counted every tile on the ceiling and the floor.
This is the waiting room, stuck in the waiting room.
This is the waiting room, stuck in the waiting room.
